What is Abuse?

In many ways, this is the most difficult and most important chapter in the workbook. This is because there is power in naming abuse and the ones who have abused. It’s hard to do, but critical to healing. Knowledge is power, and when you learn about the various types of abuse and their effects, you will shed the shame and responsibility you’ve taken for the horrific things that have been done to you. Once you stop carrying the false guilt, your heart is free to deal with the guilt that is legitimately yours. Our enemy loves keeping us confused. This is the stuff that has been weighing you down, and has kept you from living the life you are created for.

So hang in there and don’t drop out. You will soon be shedding the shame that is not yours and experiencing growing levels of freedom. You will find your voice and know the comfort of feeling validated, maybe for the first time. You will feel free to express yourself in any way, about anything, without fear of losing your community. Knowledge is power, and it will be great to get it back. It’s about time.

This is hard work, but you’re worth it. You have the rest of your life in front of you. Breathe. Feel. Be.
